North Pocono High School

"My advice to anyone struggling with his/her start of the school year would be to keep reminding yourself that it will get better. The first quarter can definitely be rough sometimes because you’re still getting used to your new teachers and trying to learn how to manage your time better, but you’ll get through it."~ Emily Rouse

Welcome back Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors and greetings to the new Freshman! It’s official everyone, summer of 2017 is over, and the next school year has begun. How have students been transitioning from summer mode to now having a strict routine five days of the week? There’s only one way to find out.

Kiersten Heck, Junior, has claimed that the beginning of the school year is going pretty decent for her. “I guess the only thing that took some getting used to was having to wake up at 6am every morning again.” Kiersten stated. Nearly the whole student body is feeling the same way.

Another Junior, Emily Rouse has also explained how well her 11th grade experience has been going, including the fact that this year she is taking on three AP classes. Along with Kiersten, she mentioned how hard it’s been to snap out of her summer sleeping schedule. The fact that she has so much homework each night definitely doesn’t help. But other than that, Emily is happy with the 2017-2018 school year so far. “My advice to anyone struggling with his/her start of the school year would be to keep reminding yourself that it will get better. The first quarter can definitely be rough sometimes because you’re still getting used to your new teachers and trying to learn how to manage your time better, but you’ll get through it,” she explained.

Liz Stevens, a sophomore, believes that summer has gone by entirely too fast, and she often forgets that she isn’t a Freshman anymore. “I’m still in the habit of thinking all of the seniors are juniors and so on,” she said. Liz also added, “I’m definitely not ready for the seniors to leave this year.” She claims that the only real thing she has to complain about concerning the start of this year is that the school’s pasta this year isn’t as tasty as last year's! Other than that, Liz believes that the start of her school year has been pleasant as well.

On the other hand, Brynn Murphy, a Freshman, has explained how high school has been a huge adjustment for her. She dislikes the fact that she has classes with other grades, but claims that the beginning of her high school career, academically, has been going well. “The biggest difference between middle school and high school, for me, is not having the same lunch period as my friends, and sharing classes with students outside of my age group,” Brynn states.

Many students seem to have high hopes for the 2017-2018 school year, considering many students have agreed that it is off to a great start. Although some have mentioned having a rough time adjusting, they will soon adapt to the high school atmosphere and realize it isn’t nearly as bad as they originally thought.
