Gabby Colo

"I'm definitely going to miss being part of the team and all the girls next year" ~ Gabby Colo

The North Pocono Girls’ Golf team exceeded the seasons expectations to a tee. Coached by Tom Cesarini, the middle school's orchestra director, helped the girls swing into an undefeated season. The girls’ golf team had a great season finishing 11-0 and winning the district match against Scranton Prep.

Without knowing the game of golf or have played before, most people assume it is an easy sport. The general idea of golf is to hit a small ball 500 yards within four strokes without messing up. The game of golf is scored by adding the three lowest scores to make one team score. During the matches, each team member is only worried about their own scores until the end when the scores are added up. Between the season beginning in early August and the practices taking place every morning five days a week, the small group of girls worked hard and earned their outstanding season.

Captains Gabby Colo and Elizabeth Pipcho helped show their younger teammates that hard work pays off. Gabby Colo, an outgoing senior and three year member of the girls’ golf team, states, “Beating Prep is huge for us! Normally they are the team we struggle to beat every year so finally beating them my senior year is awesome!” Both Gabby and Elizabeth got into golf at the age of ten, when they went to a golf camp three days a week for the entire month of July.

In Gabby’s younger years, she has played basketball and was a thrower on the track and field team, but golf is her favorite. “Being on the golf team is awesome! I'm definitely going to miss being part of the team and all the girls next year,” Gabby states.
